The Question of God

Exploring Belief and Unbelief

Dale C. Godby, PhD & Marc Rathbun, PhD

This course is intended for mental health professionals, physicians, clergy, and anyone interested in a dialogue between Sigmund Freud and CS Lewis on the issues of God, love, sex, and the meaning of life.

The course will help you in working with these issues with patients, congregants, and yourself as the class explores the dynamic of belief and unbelief. The teachers, Dale C. Godby, PhD and Marc Rathbun, PhD are both psychotherapists who are in different places on the spectrum of belief and unbelief. In their daily work they help people in their emotional and spiritual struggles in their psychotherapy practice.

We will use Armand Nicholi’s book The Question of God, as well as video clips from the PBS series based on his book. Dr. Nicholi is a psychiatrist who has taught a course at Harvard for 25 years on this topic. The course will be brief lectures and discussion in which the teachers will present clinical material and will encourage the participants to bring in material from their daily work life.
